Tampa Under Consideration for 2008 Republican Convention

Tampa is one of four cities that submitted bids last month to the Republican National Committee for the right to host the 2008 convention. Cleveland, Minneapolis and New York also are vying for the event.

Most details about Tampa’s bid were kept secret until Monday, when the Tampa Bay Convention & Visitors Bureau allowed reporters to review it.

The bid includes myriad details about the city and the event, from fundraising expectations to details about hotel arrangements.

Tampa bid in 2002 for the 2004 convention but lost to New York City. Local officials think the chances of bringing the event to Tampa in 2008 are strong.
