Democrat presidential candidate Barack Obama said he doesn’t wear the American flag lapel pin because it has become a substitute for “true patriotism” since the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
Asked about the decision Wednesday in an interview with KCRG-TV in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the Illinois senator said he stopped doing so shortly after the attacks and instead hoped to show his patriotism by explaining his ideas to citizens.
“The truth is that right after 9-11 I had a pin,” Obama said. “Shortly after 9-11, particularly because as we’re talking about the Iraq war, that became a substitute for I think true patriotism, which is speaking out on issues that are of importance to our national security.
“I decided I won’t wear that pin on my chest,” he said in the interview. “Instead, I’m going to try to tell the American people what I believe will make this country great, and hopefully that will be a testament to my patriotism.”

More than likely, someone at either MoveOn.org or the Daily Kos told him that wearing an American pin would assure that he loses votes in the 2008 election, for in the anti-war Left’s collective mind, America sucks.

This guys so full of shit “I don’t need to ware a pin to show my patriotism” as he stands in front of as many flags as he can get behind every podium give me a freaking break. He is just a smooth politician with his finger in the political winds embracing the perceived anti war sediment. Shame on him, most people are wearing those to show there support for our troops not the war. Its just like he developed a deep southern accent when he was in Mississippi wake up people.

Obama can claim to be patriotic, but being afraid to wear the American flag puts that claim in doubt.
Wearing the flag shows which side you are on. No person who is ashamed of wearing the American flag should be President of the United States.

While I don’t think the guy has the credentials for President, I worry about ‘group think’, where you are attacked for not wearing that pin. I’m a veteran, and a supporter of the current effort in Iraq, but no one should be dissed for their clothing choices.
We’re bigger than that, folks. This country draws people from all over the world because of freedom of expression. Please, keep that in mind.

This man is a poor excuse for a presidential candidate - rather embarrassing, eh? he reminds me of the old fashioned dolls - you flipped them over for a completely different view - so tell me, folks, was this a signal? remember Borack was the horse that flew Mohammed into Paradise - was Borack WHOsama raised in the United States? just where was he born? and to whom does he give his allegiance? Perhaps it’s only as transient as the dollar, once spent - he’s getting a lot of dollars, but for what reason? can’t even hang in there for the term of the office he was elected? to!
