More from the Obama-Rama
Barack Obama’s campaign has elected for it’s candidate to speak at the Siegessäule, a victory column, which was moved by Adolf Hitler from the Reichstag to its current location in 1939 as part of Hitler’s planned transformation of Berlin into the Nazi capital “Germania.”
Maybe this site was selected for his speech to promote his Civilian Army.
“The Siegessäule in Berlin was moved to where it is now by Adolf Hitler. He saw it as a symbol of German superiority and of the victorious wars against Denmark, Austria and France,” the deputy leader of the Free Democrats, Rainer Brüderle, told Bild am Sonntag. He raised the question as to “whether Barack Obama was advised correctly in his choice of the Siegessäule as the site to hold a speech on his vision for a more cooperative world.”
Andreas Schockenhoff of Chancellor Angela Merkel’s Christian Democrats said, “the Siegessäule in Berlin is dedicated to a victory over neighbors who are today our European friends and allies. It is a problematic symbol.”
Barack Obama the gift that keeps on giving to the Republicans.
Let’s hope that the McCain campaign can pick up on this and run with it successfully.

See, this is how hollow your criticism rings. First you criticize Obama for picking a Berlin site that is too good for him (the Brandenburg Gate) and now you criticize him for pickng a site that is too bad (the Victory Column). There’s probably no site in Berlin that doesn’t have some historical associations with it, with the possible exception of a McDonald’s. As much as you want to, you don’t get to decide where Obama speaks. In fact, you don’t even have any influence at all. So whine away!
OK, the Brandenburg Gate is too good for him, the Victory Column is too bad for him. Virtually every inch of Berlin has some historical connections associated with it, yet you want to quibble.
As to McCain taking advantage of this HUGE issue, he’d probably understand it better if you told him the Victory Gate was in Czechoslovakia, built by Sunnis… or do I mean Shias? Those guys are so confusing!
America has enough issues facing it; we don’t need stupid pettiness.
No, we don’t need more pettiness. It would’ve been nice, perhaps appropriate, if the Democrats had advanced someone who, either himeself or his crack advisory team, knew anything about history, especially fascism.
But, then, that would be asking too much.
As for Obama’s new speaking location, what a fitting place for Obama to speak, given his fascistic bent.
Of course, the irony of this won’t register with Obama, his devotees or his shills in what’s wrongly called the “news” media.
Perhaps he’ll unveil his new anthem: “Das Lied der Obama”–that is, “The Song of the Obama”–sung to the tune of “Das Leid der Deutschen.”
Instead of that German national song’s first few words–”Deutschland, Deutschland über alles, Über alles in der Welt..,” Obama would use “Barack, Barack” instead of “Deutschland, Deutschland.”
And the narcissist’s true universal anthem will be sung: “Barack, Barack above all, above everything in the world…”
When you think about, I guess, at victory column befits him.
Sieg Heil, Barack.
Even if the press understood the significance of German historical sites, they would fail to grasp the impropriety of BO’s appearances there. And even if they did, history demonstrates, they wouldn’t write about it.
And now today (Monday 7/21) the criticism of the Victory Column is that it’s supposedly a “party site” for young Germans, especially (gasp!) GAY Germans!
Just goes to show: if you WANT to find something bad about somebody or something, it isn’t hard to do. It’s a lot tougher keeping an open mind.
