OBH 11-22-06 “Given the deteriorating situation it is clear at this point that we cannot through putting in more troops or maintaining the presence that we have expect that somehow the situation will improve.”

OBH Today – “There might have been improvement without our military”.

He has put all his chips on the surge failing, and it has been a spectacular success. Ask Katie C., today she finally reported the overwhelmingly positive numbers.

The man just continues to leave me speechless. He has told us how wonderful his judgement is many times over. Who knew that his judgement even surpassed that of our most highly decorated commanders in the US military? Having never worn a uniform or served a day he is nonetheless an expert in these sorts of affairs as well.

That 'Community Organizer' gig must really prepare a person for just about anything! I was the PTA President for 3 years not too far back. Maybe I should just go ahead and apply for a cabinet position as Secretary of State or Secretary of Defense!

He is not there to agree that it is a success!!!

He is there to talk with Patreus, Iraqi and Afghan govt about what their input is.....its an information gathering trip, even though the Iraqi prime minister agrees with mr Obama's timetable for withdrawl

Obama says in nearly every speech that he talks about the war and says that "our troops have performed brilliantly" or something to that nature....and he is like most of us....we support our troops, but not the war or the president in charge.....

But here is another thing to consider and the reason the NYT rejected McCains column.....there is not concrete way that anyone has defined success or victory in Iraq.....When they had hearings with patreus and other generals they had a vague view of what victory looked like other than less violence in the region......Once somebody defines "success" then you can jump on Obama for not seeing the light on his trip, but untill then, focus on McCain to give us an idea of what victory looks like in all areas: troop levels, violence per day, month, year, bases set up, peace talks, border control, government infastructure, communication etc.....
