Republicans Recycle Flags Trashed By Obama Disciples At Democrat Convention

Some of the flags trashed by Democrats after B. Hussein Obama\'s Coronation in Invesco Field at Mile High Stadium

The McCain Campaign recycled the flags thrown into trash bins at Invesco Field at Mile High Stadium in Denver last week after the invocation of the Obamessiah. It seems that the disciples of the Obama had no use for the flags after Obama’s performance last week.  So they promptly heaved them in waste receptacles.  Some were thrown to the ground.

The McCain campaign recycled them at a stop in Denver on Saturday in which  McCain and  Palin dispersed them to Republicans in attendance.

From the Denver Post Blog:

…a worker at Invesco Field in Denver saved thousands of unused flags from the Democratic National Convention that were headed for the garbage. Guerrilla campaigning. They will use these flags at their own event today in Colorado Springs with John McCain and Sarah Palin.

Before McCain speaks today, veterans will haul these garbage bags filled with flags out onto the stage — with dramatic effect, no doubt — and tell the story.

“What you see in the picture I sent you is less than half of total flags,” a Republican official emailed. “We estimate the total number to be around 12,000 small flags and one full size 3×5 flag.”

From Fox News:

John McCain’s campaign prepared to accuse Democrats on Saturday of leaving behind 12,000 miniature American flags after Barack Obama’s nomination acceptance speech last Thursday in Denver.

Boy Scouts have arrived with 84 trash bags full of bundles of flags at the site of a McCain rally scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. local time in Colorado Springs.

The campaign says the flags were recovered from Invesco Field after the Democrats concluded their convention there, and they are going to be used as part of the warm-up ceremonies before McCain takes the stage for the rally.

FOX News has been told a vendor at Invesco Field found the flags, which were going to be thrown out, and turned them over to the McCain campaign.

Veterans in Colorado Springs are expected to distribute the flags to the audience at the rally.

Obama has faced questions about his patriotism since the beginning of the Democratic primary, and has set up a Web site specifically designed to fight such charges.

The McCain campaign has denied questioning Obama’s patriotism, and even released a statement Friday calling Obama’s most recent comments on the matter “hysterical.”

Obama said Friday that Republicans are trying to make the election a personality contest, and that “what they’re really saying is ‘we’re going to try to scare people about Barack. So we’re going to say that you know, ‘Maybe he’s got Muslim connections or we’re going to say that, you know, he hangs out with radicals or he’s not patriotic.’”

It’s unclear exactly what Democratic convention organizers should have done with their used flags after Obama’s nomination acceptance speech. U.S. Code says the proper method for disposing of an American flag is actually burning, provided it is “no longer a fitting emblem for display.”

The United States Flag Store, which sells full-sized and miniature flags, says on its Web site that flags can also be put in the trash, when they are “worn, damaged or tattered beyond repair.”

The US Flag Code:

Respect For The US Flag

No disrespect should be shown to the flag of the United States of America; the flag should not be dipped to any person or thing. Regimental colors, State flags, and organization or institutional flags are to be dipped as a mark of honor.

* (a) The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.
* (b) The flag should never touch anything beneath it, such as the ground, the floor, water, or merchandise.
* (c) The flag should never be carried flat or horizontally, but always aloft and free.
* (d) The flag should never be used as wearing apparel, bedding, or drapery. It should never be festooned, drawn back, nor up, in folds, but always allowed to fall free. Bunting of blue, white, and red, always arranged with the blue above, the white in the middle, and the red below, should be used for covering a speaker’s desk, draping the front of the platform, and for decoration in general.
* (e) The flag should never be fastened, displayed, used, or stored in such a manner as to permit it to be easily torn, soiled, or damaged in any way.
* (f) The flag should never be used as a covering for a ceiling.
* (g) The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature.
* (h) The flag should never be used as a receptacle for receiving, holding, carrying, or delivering anything.
* (i) The flag should never be used for advertising purposes in any manner whatsoever. It should not be embroidered on such articles as cushions or handkerchiefs and the like, printed or otherwise impressed on paper napkins or boxes or anything that is designed for temporary use and discard. Advertising signs should not be fastened to a staff or halyard from which the flag is flown.
* (j) No part of the flag should ever be used as a costume or athletic uniform. However, a flag patch may be affixed to the uniform of military personnel, firemen, policemen, and members of patriotic organizations. The flag represents a living country and is itself considered a living thing. Therefore, the lapel flag pin being a replica, should be worn on the left lapel near the heart.
* (k) The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.

Par for the course.  Dems aren’t so patriotic as they would want you to think.

Not sure who McCain’s campaign strategists are, but they have thus far proven absolutely brilliant. I am not particularly “patriotic,” but those flags in the trash really bothered me as a symbol of disregard for what this country stands for. I thank those scouts who rescued the flags from the trash. And I’ll bet everyone who’s lucky enough to get a rescued flag will keep it for many years to come.

    According to AmericanFlags.com:
When a U.S. flag is so worn it is no longer fit to serve as a symbol of our country, it should be destroyed by burning in a dignified manner. Most American Legion Posts, VFW Chapters and Boy Scout Troops regularly conduct dignified flag burning ceremonies, often on Flag Day, June 14th. Contact your local American Legion Hall, VFW Chapter or Boy Scout Troop to inquire about the availability of this service. NEVER THROW A FLAG IN THE GARBAGE!

I know what should be done with these flags. They should be treated with respect. The libs don’t have a clue. God Bless America.

  • diogenes says:

Those flags undoubtedly cost the Dems a pretty penny. I was there in Denver, I saw them waving. And I am positive that they weren’t supposed to be tossed out; the Dems were going to use them for other campaign events… why WOULDN’T they, after buying them?

Somebody got smart and made off with them in an effort to generate just this kind of buzz: that those mean nasty old Dems hate flags so much, they bought 70,000 and then threw them out in the trash.

I know this kind of story must give a certain (lower) class of Republicans a warm and fuzzy feeling in their cold little hearts, but c’mon: use a little common sense. This makes no sense whatsoever. And the Republican organizers in Colorado Springs are being very quiet as to who their source was, supposedly to “protect” him. Protect him from what? The Obama Death Squads that roam the streets of Colorado? Get real.

I am surprised the PODS haven’t immediately blamed those Clinton diehards “who won’t move on.” They did it! Them! Those evil Clintonistas!”

  • Denise-Mary says:

Response to Diogenes: if the flags were not to be thrown out, then why were they in garbage bags along with uneaten food and empty soda cans?

    Nice try, though.

  • Bruce says:

Diogenes, are you sure you don’t work for mnsnbc? They like you are always trying to make excuses for the Obama campaign. You know as well as I that once the show was over the Obama crowd cannot help themselves they are always doing stupid things that reveal their true colors. That was a very unpatriotic thing to do.(Period) There is no amount of sugar coating those selfish, American hating ,stupid and unpatriotic actions.

  • diogenes says:

Denise-Mary, where did you get the information that the flags were “in garbage bags along with uneaten food and empty soda cans”? I didn’t read anything like that.

And Bruce, I was there. I saw how and when the flags were distributed, and how they were used. And most people took them home as souvenirs; I saw them being waved by people outside the stadium on the way to the Invesco light rail station.

Do you really believe that only Republicans can be patriotic Americans? Do you honestly believe that Democrats hate this country? If so, you’re part of the problem.
