CBS News & Katie Couric, in a never ending attempt to belittle Republican Vice Presidential candidate Governor Sarah Palin, ordered it’s staff to diminish Sarah’s importance.

From The Prowler:

CBS New anchor Katie Couric ordered staff to drop all references to “Governor” or “Gov.” from her interview with Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. When a staff member pointed out that in other venues, Couric and CBS News had referred to Governor Palin’s opponent, Joe Biden, using his title of “Senator” or the abbreviation, Couric, according to a CBS News editorial aide, sought approval from CBS News management to drop the “Governor” reference during her broadcast interview with Palin that began on Wednesday night.

“It’s not true,” said another CBS News source. “We treat everyone the same.”

But, in fact, that’s not the case: as late as September 22, CBS News and Couric — even on the CBS website — used Biden’s honorific. Here is an excerpt from the transcript of a Couric interview with “Sen.” Biden:

Katie Couric: How is it preparing for the debates?

Sen. Joe Biden: Well, it’s kind of hard to prepare because I don’t know what she thinks. There’s been no — I don’t know a lot about her, so I have to assume for purposes of the debate that she agrees with John on everything.

Now compare that the transcript of the “Palin” interview:

Couric: Why do you say that? Why are they waiting for John McCain and not Barack Obama?

Palin: He’s got the track record of the leadership qualities and the pragmatism that’s needed at a crisis time like this.

In fact, at no point during the broadcast interview does Couric refer to the GOP vice presidential nominee as “Governor.”

Couric is not the only member of the broadcast news corps who has sought to diminish Palin’s professional position, though she may be the most high profile. Producers and editorial staff at both NBC and ABC report that fellow staffers have openly ridiculed Palin, her professional and personal background and her family during production meetings, in the editing bays during video editing for nightly news stories, and while covering Palin at political events.

Ultimately the higher ups at CBS News agreed, saying that wherever possible, the reference to “Governor” should be struck from graphics, scripts and published transcripts. In fact, based on perusal of the CBS website, between video and print, there is only one reference to Palin as Governor, and that is buried in a subhead on the splash page of the interview transcript.

The Concentric Barack Syntax a division of the socialist MSM.

Yeah, as horribly as GOVERNOR Palin performed in her interview with Katie Couric, I’d try like hell to divert attention to anything else.

If Couric had referred to GOVERNOR Palin, Palin still would have spin out into the ionosphere with incomprehensible comments:

“”We have trade missions back and forth,” Palin told Couric. “We, we do, it’s very important when you consider even national security issues with Russia as Putin rears his head and comes into the airspace of the United States of America, where, where do they go? It’s Alaska. It’s just right over the border. It is from Alaska that we send those out to make sure that an eye is being kept on this very powerful nation, Russia, because they are right there. They are right next to, to our state.”

And in discussing the financial crisis:

“”That’s why I say I, like every American I’m speaking with, we’re ill about this position that we have been put in . . . where it is the taxpayers looking to bail out. But ultimately, what the bailout does is help those who are concerned about the healthcare reform that is needed to help shore up our economy. Um, helping, oh — it’s got to be all about job creation too. Shoring up our economy, and putting it back on the right track. So healthcare reform and reducing taxes and reining in spending has got to accompany tax reductions, and tax relief for Americans, and trade, we’ve got to see trade as opportunity, not as a competitive, um, scary thing, but 1 in 5 jobs being created in the trade sector today. We’ve got to look at that as more opportunity. All of those things under the umbrella of job creation. This bailout is a part of that.”

Yeah, we see your point: if Couric had just called Palin with her honorific, Palin would have automatically made sense to America.

  3. BrideofRove Says:

I have been noticing this everywhere in the MSM and have stopped watching certain channels and reading certain papers. I’m done. If their advertisers want to reach me for my $$’s, then they had better hunt for the unbiased news outlets.

Women should not be treated as inferior to men. Because there has been a consistent pattern of sexism against women candidates this year, it is possible that journalists are avoiding mentioning Palin’s executive job to lessen women’s political clout.

  6. Ronny Reagon Says:

Even you little CHickenhawks know shes not ready! HAHAHAAA Good luck whining about this one! “ahh Katie was mean to Sara by asking her questions!”" grow up coward!! You whine like a little girl!! HAHAHAHA

  8. baz Says:

Come on… stop this crap already.
At some point, you have to be honest with yourselves.
I’m a Vet, and have voted GOP my whole life.
I started questioning the GOP, back in ‘04, but still voted for Pres Bush.
I was sure I was going to vote for McCain, although I was troubled that he was against the new GI Bill, and his change of position on torture.
Then when he nominated Gov Palin, who I actually thought he might pick, I grew very wary. I just didn’t think she was prepared for 2nd in command.
When the Campaign started hiding her, all the alarms went off. And now seeing her speak, she’s scary.
Stop blaming the Media for Gov Palin.
She knows nothing about domestic, or foreign affairs.
And the silly arguments about Alaska’s proximity, to Russia… defies reason.
At some point, you have to put America before the GOP.
Sen McCain choosing Gov Palin, really telegraphed, at least to me, that he’s lost any credibility. I don’t want Gov Palin near the White House.
While I have concerns about Sen Obama, and putting aside all the spin about him, I like how he’s handled this financial crisis, by not placing himself in the forefront. Even though he disagrees with Pres Bush, he’s letting the President be the President, and not trying to act like one, as Sen McCain is trying to do.
I’ll be watching the debate tonight, hoping Sen McCain changes my mind. But, Gov Palin is close to a deal killer for me. She may be smart, but I know more about the issues, than she does… that she’s been a Gov, and hasn’t even assimilated what’s going on, makes her dangerous.
Sorry, to be a killjoy here, but I can’t just vote Party anymore… there’s just too much at stake… and too much love for this Country.

  9. psygone Says:

The stage is set at the University of Mississippi at Oxford.

There are two podiums and one chair for the moderator. A nervous, panicky McCain is differing & flip-flopping all over the place on what to do.

Never in the history of this great nation, have we ever postponed a debate or election — through civil and world wars, natural disasters, Islamo-terrorism, we’ve always went forth as a democracy and did our sacred duty,

As the McCain-Palin campaign glances at their ever dropping poll numbers — they’re gripped with fear on what to do next. “Should we carry out the will of the people and move forward with the democratic process…or cancel?”.

But wasn’t it fear that Paulson, Bush and Bernake tried to instill in the American people a couple of days ago?

Several years ago, when Lt. Cmr. McCain was strafing Vietnamese villagers who were planting rice (little people, fighter pilots like to call them) there was no fear at 2,000 feet while moving 500 mph, he wasn’t the bit afraid….until quite by accident, a stray 22mm round hit his plane and brought him down.

These recent poll numbers, with the hopes and thoughts of little people across this nation - is scaring the daylights out of McCain, his multi-millionaire wife and his entire campaign.

A few stray rounds from humble rice villagers, or rather a few votes in 40 days, is what’s bringing down the most arrogant political party in the history of this nation.
    ——————-

Of course, President Bush is still the Commander-in-Chief.

By decree, he could federalize the National Guard in all 50 states, declare a National State of Emergency, impose martial law….and …..postpone the elections until March of 2009, when maybe, just maybe Congress has voted on his $1.2 Trillion bailout of Wall St.

By presidential decree in March 2009, McCain/Palin will win by a landslide.

  10. UFBret Says:

Barack has now created a “truth squad” in Missouri, comprised of lawyers and sheriffs to fight back against what they consider untruthful or even misleading ads.

On older, yet realted news, Hitler moved to eliminate all possible centers of opposition. His policy is known as Gleichschaltung, which translates literally as coordination. In this context, however, it meant more precisely subordination, that is, subordinating all independent institutions to the authority of Hitler and the Nazi Party.

  11. Katie Says:

Oh, St. Sarah the Victim! Will the Stuckons NEVER admit that Sarah has any responsibility for sounding like an idiot?

Again, blame the interviewer, the network, the “editing” whatever. I repeat my question from the “Charlie Gibson made poor Sarah look dumb” thread.

Why doesn’t she give LIVE INTERVIEWS if she suspects the editing is a problem?

Come on people, put down the Kool-Aid. She’s in over her head. She’s clueless, she was chosen purely to pander to the cult/Xtian Moonie wing of the GOP, who McCain in his more lucid days called “agents of intollerance.”

  12. Katie Says:

Thank you baz for giving me hope that not all Republicans are brain dead!

  13. UFBret Says:

Katie, shouldnt you be working some cows or something?

The fact is, sexist pigs like yourself, and those who chose not use the Governors title for a female, are just diplaying what us republicans have known all along. Your big tent is actually pretty petty and small. Accomplished minorities are wonderful, if theyre of your ilk, (remember Biden on Barack: hes clean, articulate…), but if youre a republican your “brain dead”, unworthy of a title, an Uncle Tom or an Oreo.

Keep your flag of bigotry, sexism and hatred flying high…the country is watching.

  14. Katie Says:

No I specifically said NOT ALL REPUBLICANS ARE BRAIN DEAD (you definitely ARE.)

    Take this lady Kathleen Parker:

It was fun while it lasted.

Palin’s recent interviews with Charles Gibson, Sean Hannity, and now Katie Couric have all revealed an attractive, earnest, confident candidate. Who Is Clearly Out Of Her League.

No one hates saying that more than I do. Like so many women, I’ve been pulling for Palin, wishing her the best, hoping she will perform brilliantly. I’ve also noticed that I watch her interviews with the held breath of an anxious parent, my finger poised over the mute button in case it gets too painful. Unfortunately, it often does. My cringe reflex is exhausted.

Palin filibusters. She repeats words, filling space with deadwood. Cut the verbiage and there’s not much content there….

If BS were currency, Palin could bail out Wall Street herself.

  15. Julie Says:

This is why the MSM needs an overhaul.

Agree with Palin or not, she is a Governor and deserves to be recognized as such. This is just petty behaviour by CBS and Couric. Sad and petty and this country deserves better.

The MSM should be presenting the information in an unbiased manner so the public can choose and vote for the candidate they want. We should not be subjected to the efforts by the MSM to influence the election for or against any candidate.

It’s just sad that it has come to this.

  16. Katie Says:

WHAT PETTY BEHAVIOR??? OMG! It’s not OK for Couric to ask Her Highness about the bailout LIKE SHE WOULD ANY OTHER CANDIDATE?

And why is it Couric’s fault that she gave a TOTALLY incoherent answer?

If you can’t stand the heat…then GO BACK TO ALASKA. She’s a big fish in a small, frozen pond and not at all ready for the big leagues, and although I never thought it would be possible, she makes Bush look like he ALMOST has normal-level intelligence in comparison!

  17. Col.Smeag Says:

    UFBret,

KAtie was working the coolaid convetion this week and has been slow to post. No WiFi. Besides after seeing the YouTube vid of Gov Pailin stutting the runway at the Miss Alaska Competition I am sure glad Barry didn’t pick Hillary. I would never be able to read the news again with out fearing of a involuntary reflex of my Cheerios. The Jawas really know how to promote conservatism.

    http://mypetjawa.mu.nu/archives/194226.php

    Katie,
While Barry Obama was snorting cocain Sarah Pailin was looking good, but you really wouldn’t knwo anything about looking good would you?

  18. Katie Says:

“That’s why I say I, like every American I’m speaking with, we’re ill about this position that we have been put in where it is the taxpayers looking to bail out. But ultimately what the bailout does is help those who are concerned about the healthcare reform that is needed to help shore up our economy. She’s definitely got the intellect to be a beauty contestant. But whose fault is it that answers like that come out of her mouth?

McCain made a terrible choice. And changing the subject to her pageant days doesn’t help, she sounds like Miss Teen South Carolina!

  19. Col.Smeag Says:

Barry was just asked what he was willing to give up in the budget due to the bail out. Barry only gave programs he wants to increase. DOH!

  20. Katie Says:

Well now that Barack has won that debate, I cannot WAIT til Thursday when Joe Biden puts a fork in Mooselini! OMG! They didn’t even want her spinning for McCain after the debates….they had her sittin’ a a barstool real purdy while Biden was on every channel.

Now how is the McCain camp going to fix it so she doesn’t open her mouth during the debate? THAT WILL BE INTERESTING.

  21. humanrace Says:

McCain won - what were you watching?

Funny the Katie C recently reminded women at the NOW Gala in DC that there is a special place in Hell for women who do not support women.

  22. Katie Says:

LOL! That’s your idea of “sexism,” being a woman and not voting for ANY woman? How stuck is that.

Please….women are smarter than that, besides that in itself is sexist. If Palin was a man and said the same idiotic things, s/he would still be an idiot. Of course if she was a man with the same “qualifications” s/he would never have been nominated.

  23. Jody Says:

    Sarah Palin speaks for me~

Sarah Palin must be doing alot of things right as she
had the given all the MSM a nervous breakdown.

    Hurray for Sarah~

  24. Katie Says:

Well if she “speaks for you” you must be as brilliant as she is!

Notice they kept her holed up in a bar somewhere last night while Joe Biden was interviewed on every station, now why do you think that was? They had Rudy Giuliani doing the post debate commentary for McCain. They act like they are afraid to let her open her mouth anywhere near a microphone! Never has any Veep candidate been cloistered like she is. And if you think the McCain camp is looking forward to Thurs, give me a break. I think the frantic “cancel the debate” BS was all about postponing Thurs.

  25. BrideofRove Says:

Obama has said far dumber things and he said them in speeches he wrote for himself rather than under pressure during a litmus test by a hostile MSM. Here is my full response to this topic

    http://www.brideofrove.com/?p=139#comment-544

You have had over a year to forget all of the unbelievably, frightenly stupid things Obama has said and you have not seen him under pressure - ever. You have certainly not seen how he would handle people attacking his kids, his sex life, his wife (accusing her of sex with her daughter the way they have Mr. palin? What kind of people would do that?). Palin knows that a certain cross section of the country doesn’t just hate her, they loathe her to the point of wishing her gang raped or dead. And into that she is doing interviews with a MSM determined to nail her to a wall with all the skils of their anchors and staff. This election is on the line for these reporters. For them, Obama has to win.

Compared to Obama’s gaffs and falters Palin’s are not that bad. And he did them to himself under no pressure. You see her how you want to see her. And whether you realize it or not, sexism is in definite play, shaping your opinion - because the PRESIDENTIAL candidate is far less adroit at being on the spot and you aparently arent seeing THAT. You just don’t hear all the ahhhs uhhhsss and you are ignoring the sweat of fear dripping off of him. I want to see him in Palin’s shoes with all the hate articles around him and nearly the entire weight of a hostile press after him. He’s had 18 months head start on Palin of practice in soft cushy landings and cover ups. Throw him to the wolves and let’s see how he does. From what I’ve seen in the few situations where he was asked questions he didn’t like or couldn’t answer, he got angry and attacked the questioner rather than answer.

You are seeing what you want to see with no perspective and no sense of compressed time.

  26. BrideofRove Says:

The “Cancel the debate” thing was McCain screwing with Obama’s head because he has weaknesses to exploit and one of them is he can’t function without teleprompters or MAJOR preparation in advance. Throw him off balance and you undermine a smooth operator. I respect that tactic.

Biden has a history of gaffs and is in real danger of breaking the “first do no harm” rule of debate. Palin has debated before and observers say she’s very good at it. I don’t know. We’ll find out Friday. Can’t wait to see what McCain does to put Biden off balance before the debate. I’m sure it won’t be as bad as the personal hits on Palin’s family and private email that the democrats have tried.

  27. Right is Right Says:

    The undeniable, disgusting media bias,supporting
Obama, is like nothing we have ever seen before. If Obama, had been subjected to half of the smears and attacks that Palin has, he would have folded long ago.Lets here more about his (MENTORS,FINANCIAL SUPPORT FROM FANNIE AND FREDDIE,VOTING RECORD,FLIP- FLOPPING,EARMARKS,HIS WIFES OBVIOUS LOVE OF THE WHITE RACE,IS THE SURGE GOOD OR BAD,WORKING OR NOT?).The only thing worse than the MSM support of the dems, is the thought of Pelosi somehow sitting in that chair. GOD HELP US ALL!

  28. Danny P Says:

baz, my hat goes off for what you wrote. If all Republicans were like you, this wonderful country wouldn’t be in the deep shit it is in, right now. Unfortunately, that’s not the case and we also have the legions of idiots who believe Sarah Palin is anything else but the ideal model for any sculptor who decided to carve in marble the statue of pure stupidity.

  29. Danny P Says:

And you too Katie. It’s a pleasure to read your posted messages.
