Gwen Ifill, the moderator of this Thursday’s debate between Alaska Governor Palin and Senator Biden has a new book scheduled to come out on Inauguaration day January 20th: The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama.
Amazon’s description of Ifill’s partisan book which voices Support for Obama:
Product Description
In THE BREAKTHROUGH, veteran journalist Gwen Ifill surveys the American political landscape, shedding new light on the impact of Barack Obama’s stunning presidential campaign and introducing the emerging young African American politicians forging a bold new path to political power.
Ifill argues that the Black political structure formed during the Civil Rights movement is giving way to a generation of men and women who are the direct beneficiaries of the struggles of the 1960s. She offers incisive, detailed profiles of such prominent leaders as Newark Mayor Cory Booker, Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick, and U.S. Congressman Artur Davis of Alabama, and also covers up-and-coming figures from across the nation. Drawing on interviews with power brokers like Senator Obama, former Secretary of State Colin Powell, Vernon Jordan, the Reverend Jesse Jackson, and many others, as well as her own razor-sharp observations and analysis of such issues as generational conflict and the “black enough” conundrum, Ifill shows why this is a pivotal moment in American history.
THE BREAKTHROUGH is a remarkable look at contemporary politics and an essential foundation for understanding the future of American democracy.
A Pro Obama book…
Ifill’s commentary on Sarah Palin’s Acceptance at the GOP Convention in St. Paul:
Was the McCain/Palin campaign cognicent of this revelation? Why would the campaign agree to have Ifill as moderator if they had advance knowledge?

I love the ad hominems (and whine) of Conservatives in the morning.
Sounds like victory,
Smells like VICTORY!
I will say it again, “OBAMA WILL WIN”
Now repeat after me, President Barack H. Obama
Once more, Pres-i-dent O-BA-MA!
Greta knew
– but a McCain-Palin_08 campaign was (as usual), clueless
http://gretawire.foxnews.com/2008/10/01/oh-oh-6/
oh – oh! ……heh heh heh
She seems to have a problem with Palin, but might be able to put her biases aside, if she is aware of them and wants to be honest.
It was a mistake for Obama’s people, and I do mean Obama’s people, to agree to have her as a moderator. Blacks will listen to the show and might find Palin not that bad after all. Republicans have shown that they don’t get scared easily by the race card.
Americans and Palin must be used to biased interviewers by now in any event.
Let’s see, live debate, can’t blame the editing.
Already making new lame-o excuses as to why Palin will sound like a dumbass.
Yeah let’s have a fair and balanced moderator like Brit Hume, right? But then there will be some other UNFAIR THING that would make Palin a SNIFF! victim.
Pathetic.
Why the “heads I win, tails you lose” poll questions?
McCain’s campaign should have been told about her forthcoming book. Iffin should have volunteered this information.
oh – oh !!
by Greta Van Susteren
I confirmed for us here on GretaWire: the McCain campaign did NOT know about Gwen Ifill’s book (I think I told them when I made my efforts – emails about midnight – to find out!) I am stunned….the campaign (actually both) should have been told before the campaign agreed to have her moderate. It simply is not fair – in law, this would create a mistrial.
I agree with Gretaware. See how having the right facts help. I’m better informed, and perhaps this comment is better than my earlier one.
WHO would the crybaby McCain camp approve??? Seriously!! They’re crying crocodile tears over KATIE COURIC! WAAAH! She’s mean! She asks super hard “gotcha” questions like “what newspapers and magazines to you read?” Now who could come up with and answer to a “gotcha” question like THAT!
Hey even though Sean Hannity didn’t challenge her on the nonsensical babbling she did during his “tough interview,” she STILL looked like a dumbass getting interviewed by that unabashed GOP propagandist.
Katie:
This one smells bad, very bad. It’s just a matter of fairness. There are two basic principles of administrative, criminal and civil justice: a- hear both sides; and b- an impartial judge. And b- is divided in two parts: either clear bias (e.g. money) or apparent bias (e.g. book). Iffin got money and a book. She’s out.
psygone… can’t wait.
America could use a full dose of the unadulterated stuff. Not the watered-down mix we got from Bill Clinton. If we survive the dose, get through the rehab, we’ll have it out of our system forever.
Even the memory of it will make us want to vomit. So it’s all to the good. If we survive.
Dear Katie!
Your piece was beyond dumb an unfair. Go ahead elect
your dumbass affirmative action decoy President!
Gwen Ifill clearly has a conflict of interest that, were journalism actually a profession, would cause her to recuse herself from the VP debate. This is not merely “the appearance of a conflict” or a “potential” conflict. If Obama/Biden wins, she stands to gain financially – in the legal business, that’s an actual conflict that cannot be waived. A judge in this situtation would have no choice but to recuse himself. An attorney with such a conflict would be forced to resign from representing one of the clients involved. (I’m not asking her to give up her book deal.) If journalism is serious about its pretensions to professionalism, Ms. Ifill must be forced to recuse herself from moderating the debate. Any other result simply lends considerable weight to Sen. McCain’s accusations of media bias.
I repeat my question to the paranoid wingnuts: in your cult-addled heads, aren’t ALL media except Fox News “in the tank” for Obama? Aren’t they ALL “out to get” conservatives?
WHO on this earth would show proper “deference” to Queen Sarahcuda?
You think Brit Hume is less partisan than Gwen? Seriously? Unlike him, she is a respected journalist and not a hack. You can’t find ONE of her interviews where she shows an unfair bias. She’s a professional.
Also the book is about RACE AND POLITICS. How it is different being a black politician now as opposed to at the time of Martin Luther King. It is not a book instructing people to vote for Obama.
Not that you people ever read anything but “fair and balanced” books by Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter!
Dave H:
Thank you for your informative post.
I have no difficulty with your comments, but I don’t see a conflict for lawyers, except for prosecuting attorneys. Witnesses, including expert witnesses, will lose any credibility, if they hide this kind of involvement and get caught.
Lawyers are not paid to be impartial. Judges, moderators, referees are.

“should have” ? Not so according military strategists and chess players.
6th century BC — Sun Tzu on the ‘Art of War’

8. All warfare is based on deception.
Dear Katie!
Your bias is clear when you accuse each and everyone of us not agreeing with you for:
A) Paranoid wingnuts
B) Being conservative
C) Reading nothing else but “fair and balanced” books by Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter.
Talk about being narrow-minded yourself.
But lets look back a couple of months when Hillary run against Barack. She complained loudly about the medias one-sided coverage always favouring Obama. People like you replied that she was a cry-baby. And what happened in August, just weeks before the democratic nomination?! Holly gosh “the Press” admitted that hmm- well Barack got a more positive view.. Oh really?!
- And guess what, the story repeats itself, because today neither Barack nor Bieden can do anything wrong and they’re above all scrutiny and suspicion.
They will heal the Planet and the nation and Barack (with his 143 days in senate) will fix the economy..
Weil, well, well.. But enough said, all I DARED to propose is to swap “moderator” to someone NOT writing a book together with BO.
-How naughty of me, bigot gun clenching religious Hillbilly.

Instead of sitting in chat rooms complaining Liberals and Conservatives alike, get involved in politics and become a part of the solution. Karl and Kaite try a little to be a little more objective. Its funny how passionate you are about people you don’t even know and could care less about you individually. But I know, you must be heard. Please don’t let me interupt, continue exercising your right to free speech.
Katie, you definitely are stuck on stupid if you think B.O is going to improve your life. If he cared about anything but power he would have thrown his support behind a qualified democrat, one who has experience people can actually believe in, and then waited a few terms to take his turn. He’s not ready to be president and he knows it, but he sure has a lot of folks duped and no doubt he’s thanking God every night the country is full of Katies. I’m sure you’d change your tune about Palin if you lived in Alaska and got a perennial oil royalty dividend, or this year’s $1,200 windfall check. Palin actually has experience and has tangibly improved people’s lives. You don’t know anything about her but you hate her. Why should anyone listen to you?
my my my….
….a couple of profound, shocking truths from Katie (in her own very nice way) and the board instantly becomes agitated with frosting-at-mouth Conservatives.
….one finger wag from little Grandmama Pelosi and the chamber has a heart attack and the markets “lose” $4 Trillion in value around the world
Behold, the power of women
LOL! McCain on FoxNews says he thinks Gwen is a pro, she will be objective, and he doesn’t have a problem with her.
I repeat: WHO ARE THEY GOING TO GET THAT THE WINGNUTS WOULD APPROVE OF? There is no journo who they don’t consider “out to get them” (ie, they occasionally report reality which is not in line with their wacky ideology/world view.)
Speaking of partisan, I find your poll here partisan. The choices are
No, Gwen is too partisan
Yes, Sarah can handle the partisan questioning
VERY S.O.S.
I vote “other”
No, Gwen is not too partisan to conduct an objective debate and Sarahcuda can’t tell you the time of day without looking like a complete ditz.
PS — is Palin going to get us ALL “windfall checks?” Really? I thought the system was like, we all pay up the nose and the money then gets “redistributed” to SarahCuda or whoever is sitting in the Gov’s chair to send to ALASKAN CITIZENS ONLY.
I think that is very interesting, popular in Alaska but will Main Street USA like being on the other side of that equation?
I think that’s definitely something the Dems should exploit.
The GOP after all is AGAINST a windfall tax. But…but…why can’t we ALL get those nice checks, like in AK?
[...] Stuck On Stupid [...]
ABSOLUTELY in the tank!!!!You can”t find a MSM JOURNALIST THAT ISN”T….Katie, wait,Katie ???? Katie Couric ? I KNEW IT !! Now it makes sense…..Hows the ratings? OK , I”m braced for some more LOL”S,WAAAH”S,WINGNUTS,CUDA”S,MOOSE,and McWHAT EVERS.
Whoa! LOL…I think McCain has the Incoherent Vote sewed RIGHT up!
And the Stuck On Stupid vote, obviously.
LOL…Looks like Obuma has the blind ,socialist ,follow me any where vote sewn right up! And the can”t answer any questions ,vote also .Did I miss your reply on Raines 1.1 mill,Gorlicks 779K ,Dodds and Obumas checks from Fannie ? Or is that one to painfull ? YES OR NO ?
More on Obamas massive amount of secret, foreign contributions. Of course, the Obama campaign wont release the vast majority of data on over $220 million in contributions:
Secret, Foreign Money Floods Into Obama Campaign

More than half of the whopping $426.9 million Barack Obama has raised has come from small donors whose names the Obama campaign won’t disclose.

Bidens ideas on foreign policy and diplomacy with iran in the wake of 9/11:
At the Tuesday-morning meeting with committee staffers, Biden launches into a stream-of-consciousness monologue about what his committee should be doing, before he finally admits the obvious: “I’m groping here.” Then he hits on an idea: America needs to show the Arab world that we’re not bent on its destruction. “Seems to me this would be a good time to send, no strings attached, a check for $200 million to Iran,” Biden declares. He surveys the table with raised eyebrows, a How do ya like that? look on his face.

I think that Gwen Ifill is a professional, and I think she will do a totally objective job because she is a highly-respected professional.
Not my words. Not Katie’s words.
These words were spoken by none other than John McBush TODAY, after being asked whether Ifill should step down or be challenged.
As for notice, the book — which hasn’t even been finished yet — was publicized back in July. If anybody in the McBush could actually read and, more importantly, chose to exercise that skill set, they would have known months ago.
Can we move onto the next pseudo-issue now? What line of crap are Hannity and Limbaugh feeding the masses tomorrow? Bad lighting? “Gotcha” quesyions like “Governor Palin, can you tell us ANYTHING you know about the American political system or American history? Anything? Antyhing at all?”
Both John McCain and SarahCuda are OK with Gwen but that’s not good enough for STUCK ON STUPID. They want…well they want NOBODY because they’re ALL in the tank for Obama! FOOT STOMP!
In fact….LEAVE SARAH ALONE!
Just….leave her ALONE you mean DRIVE-BY MSM!
ENJOY!
This is really cute:

Katie
I want to let you know I have decided ot be fair and balanced. I read all your comments tonight. I went to my thinking corner, and tried to think of any possible way you could be right……still thinking…..I give up you could hold the truth if it was glued to your hand.
BTW nice temper tantrum…. Barry cutting back on the OT?
couldn’t
shakespear – much to do about nothing, i heard about this book 2 mths ago, is the McCain camp unable to read, thats right they picked a woman for vp who thinks man walked along side T rex lol
Of Course, this “down the middle” moderator NEVER told the commision about her book…why???
“The host of PBS’”Washington Week” and senior correspondent on “The NewsHour” said she did not tell the Commission on Presidential Debates about the book.”
Then she pulls the race card:
Do you think they made the same assumptions about Lou Cannon (who is white) when he wrote his book about Reagan?” said Ifill, who is black. Asked if there were racial motives at play, she said, “I don’t know what it is. I find it curious
Curious indeed.
http://apnews.myway.com/article/20081002/D93I484G3.html
Well she asked totally expected (and rehearse) questions and NEVER called Palin on answer unasked questions — what more can you want?
That aside, GAWD was Palin dreadful or what? The memorized robot “answers” and the GASP *pageant style winking at the judges! Lordy….
Any “disaffected Hillary supporters” she still retrained after her nightmare unscripted interviews are GONE after the dumbass non-answers and WINKING!
GAWD , what typical bush bashing, dim crap,Robot answers ?All she did was repeat alot of Bidens points he used against Obuma when he was running. I can”t beleive any Hillary supporters would fall into the same “crap trap” that you have…..You have to be getting paid by the “SAVIOR” to have that kind of opinion of last night……WINK, WINK ,DUMBASS!!!!!
From WSJ, Obama was willing to lose in Iraq:
A profoundly important point is being missed in the campaign debate over which candidate was right on Iraq. In 2006, when conditions on the ground were trending downward and a decision was required either to continue the struggle or to cut our losses, Barack Obama stated that the proposed deployment of more forces, the “surge,” was doomed to failure and instead called for a phased withdrawal of all forces within a defined period.
In short, Sen. Obama was willing to lose. It was an astonishing display of ignorance to be so cavalier about defeat, almost as if losing a war was tantamount to losing a set of tennis — something without lasting consequence.
