When it comes to eyewear, especially the luxurious kind, you can never go wrong with Persol. For those of you who have yet to be introduced to Persol, it is an Italian luxury eyewear company. Persol specializes in sunglasses as well as other kinds of optic wear. The name is derived from the Italian term ‘per il sole’ which translates to ‘for the sun’. The company was formed way back in 1917 by Giuseppe Ratti. A long time ago they only catered to pilots as well as sports drivers but now lunettes persol is available for everyone and their best known for their incredible durable sports sunglasses.
Persol has numerous collections and under each collection are hundreds of glasses with varying designs and colors. All in all, they have thousands of designs to offer clients and that number has only been growing. The following are some of their collection and a brief introduction for each to give you a clear idea:
- 649 Series – initially designed in 1957 for the Turin tram-drivers, the glasses under the 649 Series soon rose from the functions it was first created for. It made its mark when Marcello Mastroinanni wore the said glasses in the classic Divorce, Italian Style.
- 714 Series – making its debut back in 1960s as a foldable version of the 649 design, the 714 was the first folding glasses ever. Because of the design, these glasses needed ten more steps compared to the standard frames. 714 glasses rose to fame when they were used by Steve McQueen on The Thomas Crown Affair.
- Cellor – designed and created in the 1950’s, the Cellor glasses have been features for years and are constantly reinvented in order to offer new designs. But they will always retain their Cellor look; they are now redesigned to their initial shape in sun version.
